Leading Fearless Change

Technology is always changing, so you continually have great ideas to bring into your organization.  But you often struggle to make them happen because, unfortunately, those who want to introduce change are not always welcomed with open arms. Mary Lynn Manns has co-authored the popular book, Fearless Change: Patterns for Introducing New Ideas, that documents successful strategies of change leaders around the world.  You can learn how to influence others, overcome adversity and encourage people to become so involved and interested in your ideas that they really do want to change.  Bring your frustrations! You will work on creating solutions to the problems that allow “powerless leaders” to fearlessly lead change in their organizations.

Harvey Schoenman, Retired

After a 43-year career in technology, the last 37 years in Information Technology, Harvey retired in 2006. Harvey spent his last 15 years working for PNC in a number of management positions and retired as a Vice President and Technology Support Manager. Prior to that Harvey worked for First Federal of Pittsburgh where he developed a keen interest in microcomputer technology; early versions of today’s PCs. He also worked 13 years for Financial Accounting Services (now FiServ) where he managed Systems & Programming on mainframe computers. His working career previously included over 7 years with Burroughs Corp (now Unisys) as a System Support Representative with clients throughout the U.S.

Harvey has stayed current with Microsoft’s desktop technologies and became interested in Vista’s speech recognition and how it compares with commercial programs.

Vista Speech Recognition & Navigation
Starting with Windows Vista, Microsoft has embedded speech recognition for both application program input as well as Windows navigation in the operating system. We will see, via demonstration, just where this technology stands and how well it stacks up against the industry speech recognition standard, Dragon Naturally Speaking.

We'll examine how and where each can be used to provide assistive technology to people who are physically challenged, whether temporary or permanent.
